Panditaratnam K P Narayana Pisharody (1909–2004)

Panditaratnam K.P. Narayana Pisharody was a famous Sanskrit scholar, teacher and writer of Kerala. He was born on August 23 ,in 1909 in Cherpulassery in Palakkad district to Puthisseri Pasupathi Namboothiri and Narayani Pisharasyar. He learned Sanskrit from the renowned scholars Punnasseri Nambi Neelakanta Sharma of Pattambi and Attoor Krishna Pisharody. After passing Sahithyashiromani examination from Sanskrit college Pattambi in 1932 he taught Malayalam and Sanskrit in various schools and colleges. After retirement from Sree Keralavarma College, Thrissur did research under UGC fellowship. He has also received the titles “Sahitya nipunan” “Pandita thilakam” and “Sahitya rathnam.” In 1999 “Ezhuthachan Puraskaram” the highest literary honour of the Kerala government was awarded to Pisharody. He died on March 21, 2004.


His major works are Manideepam, Kalalokam, Shruthimmandapam, Dhananjyam, Thoranayudhankam, Kalidasa hridayam Thedi, Attoor Natyashasthram(Translation)

P . Unnikrishnan Nair Thiuvalla (1935- )

Thiruvalla Kavumbhagam Niranasseril P. Unnikrishnan Nair is an eminent researcher from central Travancore who revealed the history and ancient glory of great temples in central Travancore region of Kerala. He is regarded as a Kulapathi in Kshetra Charitra (Temple history) research. He was born in 1935 at Padiyara in Thiruvalla. He served as an employee in Health Department and had published more than 200 articles about temple history in various magazines like Service, Kumkumam, Janmabhumi, Pragathi, Bhashaposhini, Vinjana Kairali, Dharmapadham, Kesari etc.


His major researches were on Thiruvalla Sree Vallabha Temple, Thrichitat Maha Vishnu Temple, Thiruppuliyoor Maha Vishnu Temple, Thiruvaranmula Parthasarathy Temple, Thrikkodithanam Vaishnava Maha Temple, Thiruvanvandoor Maha Vishnu Temple, Thiruppuliyoor Maha Vishnu Temple, Chengannur Mahadeva Temple, Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, Vazhappally Mahadeva Temple, Thelliyoorkkavu Devi Temple and Perunna Subrahmanya Swami Temple. He had done in-depth research on Divya Desams in Kerala. His major works/books are History of Thiruvalla, Thiruppuliyoor Grandhavari, Thiruvalla Grandhavari, Sreenarayanapuram Temple and Sabarimala Darsanam.


Unnikrishnan Nair revealed the inscriptions like Thiruvalla Sasanam, Vazhappally Sasanam, Kaviyoor Sasanam, Thiruvanvandoor Sasanam, Thrikkodithanam Sasanam, Kaviyoor Sasanam, Thiruvanvandoor Sasanam, Thrikkodithanam Sasanam, Thrikkakkara Sasanam, Kumaranalloor Sasanam, Kandiyoor Sasanam, Perunna Sasanam, Irinjalakkuda Sasanam, Idamana Sasanam, Mariyappally Sasanam and Edathil Sasanam. He has a large collection of ancient manuscripts, rare Salagrmams, idols, different types of lamps (vilakku), coins, Valkkannadis(mirrors), ezhithani/narayams old cheena bharanis etc
